Holistic Therapies for Body & Home

SERVICES

SHIATSU THERAPY

A form of bodywork which incorporates Traditional Chinese Medicine with traditional Japanese manual therapy, contemporary anatomy and physiology. Treatments may include pressure with thumbs, hands, elbows, knees or feet applied to effective points and pathways, as well as stretching & rotation of limbs and joints, to assure a smooth flow of energy throughout the body. It engages specific effects on the skeletal and nervous system to promote, restore and maintain optimum health.

While the theories, effective points and pathways of Traditional Chinese Medicine have been thoroughly developed and practiced for thousands of years, contemporary Shiatsu Therapy also has a strong scientific background in its mechanisms and physical effect based on modern anatomy and science. It is a holistic therapy that treats the mental/emotional, physical and visceral functions of the body simultaneously and is effective for treating a wide range of conditions. The therapist continues to assess the condition of the patient's body as treatment progresses. Pulse reading, tongue assessment and abdominal evaluation are incorporated. Treatments are applied through loose, comfortable clothing.

ABDOMINAL THERAPY

The root of well-being. Traditional Chinese Ampuku, Japanese Goto and Maya abdominal therapy techniques are combined with contemporary anatomy and physiology to benefit digestive health, internal organ function, emotional health and fertility. Maya techniques are specifically available for correction of the prolapsed, fallen or tilted uterus in women and prostrate health in men. Pre & post natal work also available, focused on the specific structural, physiological and psychological needs of the mother and developing baby during pregnancy and after childbirth.

SPIRITUAL BATHS

Local plants are chosen and intentionally prepared in water combined with sunlight or moonlight prior to the appointment. The bath is practiced in accordance to specific Maya traditions and ritual with the purpose of cleansing emotions and clearing the spirit of unwanted attachments and energies. Please bring or wear a bathing suit, towels are provided and a shower is available if desired at the conclusion of the session.

EAR CANDLING

A gentle, non-invasive 'massage' for your ears. Stimulates the ears' ability to excrete wax and debris, freeing up energy flow. Many find this helps with ear problems, sinus congestion, ringing in the ears, and vertigo/dizziness. Appointments will also incorporate massage techniques applied to the scalp and neck to further support your treatment goal. All candles are professionally purchased, made of cotton muslin dipped pure beeswax and include a special tip designed to protect the ear from debris. Note: Ear candling is contraindicated and not appropriate if you have an ear infection.

ENERGY CLEARING

Environments need energy clearing just like they need vacuuming and dusting. Learn how to move and clear stagnant and negative energy in your home.

ADDITIONAL THERAPIES that can be incorporated into your appointments when applicable and appropriate. Please ask if you have questions or requests:

CUPPING

Historically utilized in every culture on Earth. Suction 'cups' are placed on the skin and used to stimulate movement of stagnant Qi and blood and promote healing.

MOXIBUSTION

A warming herb used over a specific point or points to strengthen energy.

ESSENTIAL OILS

Therapeutic grade essential oils used topically over specific points, steamed or diffused.

RAINFOREST REMEDIES

A locally made line of traditional herbal and topical healing products which support both physical and spiritual healing process. Rainforest Remedies topical products may be used by your practitioner in session, all products are available for purchase.

Formulated by Dr. Rosita Arvigo, based on her work and 13 year apprenticeship in Belize with respected, traditional Maya healer and shaman Don Elijio Panti, Jewel of Belize. Rosita is also noted for co-founding the Belize Ethnobotony Project with Dr. Michael Balick in 1987. The project specifically gathered the knowledge of over two dozen local traditional healers and bushmasters (experts in forest utilization) participating to collect, identify, and study the plants of Belize. From 1991-1994, the BEP held five regional and two national Traditional Healers Conferences in Belize that were attended by over five hundred bush doctors, midwives, herb collectors, massage therapists, bone setters, snake doctors and granny healers. The project resulted in research through the National Cancer Institute, scientific preservation of cultural and traditional knowledge, and the promotion of conservation of biodiversity.
